While some dogs might not like swimming, most dogs find something that excites them about the beach. I often think that the digging dogs just dig because it feels good. When Molly, my JRT, digs there is a reason, often it is a sand crab she has run to ground.
Seems like many dig just to dig , or maybe like this greyhound, they like an audience!

I can almost see other dogs in the audience holding up signs to vote for their favorite digger. :)
